Frequently Asked Questions About Aerosol System

June 2, 2022

As aerosol systems become more and more popular in a variety of industries, many people have many questions about aerosol fire suppression systems, here are some frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Aerosol Fire Suppression System

Question 1: What is the Price?

Answer: The price of the aerosol fire suppression system is affordable and cheaper compared to other systems such as Novec 1230, foam, CO2, dry chemical powder, high-pressure water mist, and fm200.

Because it can achieve very high fire extinguishing effects with very low agent concentrations, its design density is 50 to 100 grams per cubic meter only.

Question 2: How many aerosol suppression manufacturers are now in the world?

Answer: Currently, there are more than 100 manufacturers worldwide producing aerosols, with most of them producing second-generation aerosols that use potassium nitrate as the main oxidant (K-type). However, we have developed a new aerosol generator that uses strontium nitrate as the primary oxidant, also known as S-type aerosol.

The K-type and S-type differ in their oxidant composition. K-type contains 50%-70% potassium nitrate, while S-type contains 40%-50% strontium nitrate and 10%-20% potassium nitrate.

Question 3: Advantages of Aerosol Fire Suppression?

Answer: Compared to other types of fire suppression systems, aerosol has many advantages:

  • Compared to dry powders (super-fine ABC chemical system), there is no need to clean up any residues after release. Additionally, the fire extinguishing efficiency is higher than that of dry powder.
  • Compared to other systems like FM200, carbon dioxide, Inergen, foam, water mist systems, etc., installation of aerosols is very simple because it does not require a pipeline network or pressure storage, making it very safe and reliable.
  • Compared to water systems, it is non-corrosive to the protected object.
  • Moreover, its lifespan is longer than most other systems, reaching over 10 years, and it does not require annual inspections or maintenance.
  • Aerosol systems can be used in very small spaces such as electric bicycles, lithium batteries, meter boxes, etc., where other systems may not be suitable.

Question 4: Which is a better solution, The aerosol system or FM200?

Answer: Answer: The Aerosol system is suitable for enclosing spaces that are less than 500 cubic meters in volume. It is also effective for protecting narrow spaces such as electrical cabinets and vehicle engines.

On the other hand, the FM200 system is ideal for total flooding of enclosure spaces that are no larger than 1600 m³. It is suitable for larger spaces such as computer rooms, data centers, and so on.

Additionally, while aerosol is non-pressurized, FM200 cylinders require pressure to function properly.

Question 5: What is the working principle of an aerosol fire suppression system?

Answer: For working principle information on the system please read our other article. The link is as follows:
What is condensed aerosol fire suppression and how does it work?

Question 6: What are the main chemicals in aerosol compounds to suppress fire?

Answer: The main chemicals used in aerosol compounds to suppress fire are strontium nitrate and potassium nitrate.

Question 7: How does the manufacturer design an aerosol fire suppression system?

Answer: When it comes to designing a fire suppression system, aerosol systems have their design calculations. For a project, you would typically need to enlist the help of a supplier to design the system for you. Design files are usually provided in DWG or PDF format, along with pricing information.

Sometimes manufacturers will send many aerosol fire suppression system PDF files for your reference.

Question 8: What kinds of Standards?

Answer: The standard on aerosol suppression systems is listed as follows:

  • NFPA 2010-Standard for fixed aerosol fire-extinguishing systems.
  • ISO 15779-2011: Condensed aerosol fire extinguishing system- Requirements and test methods for components and system design, installation, and maintenance-general requirements.
  • UL 2775: UL standard for safety fixed condensed aerosol extinguishing system units.
  • CEN EN 15276-1:2019 fixed firefighting systems-condensed aerosol extinguishing systems-part 1: requirements and test methods for components.
  • GA 499.1-2010: Aerosol fire extinguishing system-Part 1: Condensed aerosol fire extinguishing device.

Question 9: Has Aware Fire product ever successfully extinguished a fire?

Answer: Yes, we have many successful firefighting cases, such as Chilean excavators, African coal mines, Chinese wind power, etc.

Question 10: What are the startup methods for aerosol fire extinguishing systems?

Answer: a. electric start. b. thermal cord start. c. thermo or glass bulb start.

Question 11: Can aerosol agents be refilled after spraying?

Answer: No. It is a disposable product and must be sealed for installation. The cost of reloading is higher than the cost of remaking the entire product, so there is no need to refill it.

Question 12: Will it destroy the ozone layer and produce a greenhouse effect?

Answer: No, aerosol is a clean product, the medication does not contain any ingredients that threaten the ozone layer and can be used with confidence.

Question 13: Is it safe?

Answer: The aerosol fire suppression system is safe, but if the installer operates it with the wrong methods, it may cause the device to discharge by mistake, and the people at the site may get hurt.

Question 14: Is it easy to install the aerosol system?

Answer: It is very easy, just do it yourself to install, for details please ask our sales or service team for INSTALLATION MANUAL.

Question 15: Does it need to work with fire alarm systems?

Answer: It can work with a fire alarm system together, to form a complete fire suppression and alarm system, The fire suppression system and fire alarm system are two brothers, they normally work together; but in some small enclosure space, if you do not want fire alarm system, then the aerosol generator also can work stand-alone.

Question 16: Does it is the best fire suppression system?

Answer: for installation in a small enclosure space of the vehicle engine compartment, wind turbine, electrical cabinet, and control panels, perhaps it is the best solution.

Question 17: How can we know its shelf life is 10 years?

Answer: It is decided by the aging test, to keep the aerosol in a high temperature 100℃ test box and keep it in this box for almost 28 days, after 28 days put the aerosol device out and try to activate it, if it can activate successfully then it is proof that the shelf life can reach 10 more years.

Question 18: Do you also have PDF files for us to learn more?

Answer: For these kinds of Frequently Asked Questions, we have PDF files for your reference, the read and download links as below:
